9/29/2016 Meeting

Bernie Hampsey gave a warm introduction of our speaker, Jack Wozmak. Jack is currently manager of the Keene Airport after a series of many hot seat jobs. He was very positive about the economic development aspects of the airport – both by increasing air traffic and using some of the land at the airport for economic development. The airport is quite busy but there is still room for expansion on the extra land. Current examples include a restaurant and potentially, a state driver's test center.

Previously, Jack was drug czar for New Hampshire. He stressed the need for more treatment centers and long-range recovery programs. Currently when a user gets out of the emergency room, jail or detox, there is no place for him to go. He said due to economic restraints and political will that there are not enough treatment centers. This contrast with the old days when there were many options.

As a former County Commissioner, he also had a strong opinion on Maplewood, the county assisted living facility. He thought that the facility would be perfectly adequate with a few modest improvements, and that it was not necessary to spend money on a new building elsewhere.
