Melanie Patria honored by Rindge as Citizen of the Year.
Patria has been involved in a number of volunteer projects as of late, having recently donated a painting to the Ingalls Memorial Library and to Conant High School. She helped clean up the Ingalls Memorial Library, has been a part of her school’s Chinese exchange program, coaches middle school-aged children on a traveling soccer team, and helped organize a 3K race to benefit Shelter from the Storm.
“I love teaching new skills and getting people to learn and understand things,” said Patria, in reference to her help with the soccer team and her volunteering efforts with the Rindge Recreation Center’s after-school program. “It’s fun to see kids faces light up and laugh.”
The Ledger-Transcript named Patria to the All-Area All-Star team for soccer after each of the past two seasons.
The award recipients have to be nominated for the award, with the criteria focusing on those who contribute to the betterment of the town, according to RAMS president David Drouin.
“The award recipient has strong values and has made lasting contributions to the town,” said Drouin. “Town government in a small town can do so much; it shows you what a great community we have here in Rindge.”
