Dear Rotarians,

Thank you to all who attended our delightful breakfast at the Jaffrey Fire Station this past week. The food was great, and we got a well-crafted update from Town Manager and Rotarian Jon Frederick on the Rt. 202 rotary project that will soon transform downtown Jaffrey. Jon's step-by-step slides were very clear in describing the schedule and impact of this important project. If you want to know more, Jo Anne Carr will be walking people through the project on Friday afternoons from 3-5pm during the Farmer's Market in downtown Jaffrey. Jon also noted that, contrary to many residents' belief, this project is a State of NH effort, and not something done by the Town of Jaffrey! It has been in the works for more than 40 years.

As you may already know, we will meet four times this summer.

We will NOT meet on Thursday July 17.  Our next meeting will be at the Cathedral of the Pines on July 24th, 7:15am.  Bring your appetites - pancakes!!

Be sure to plan to come to our first August meeting on Thursday evening, August 7th, at 5:30 pm (yes, evening) at the Peterborough Players to see the show Native Gardens (see below). This will be a Pot-Luck social event from 5:30 - 7:30pm as we have done in previous years, with the show starting at 7:30pm. Please contact Don Upton if you plan to attend as seats are limited. Payment should be made to the Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary Club, as this year we purchased the tickets as a club.

About the show "Native Gardens," as extracted from the Peterborough Players' web site...

Native Gardens is a high-spirited Horti-Culture Clash by Karen Zacarías.  Melissa Crespo will be directing the comedy.  Pablo, a high-powered lawyer, and doctoral candidate Tania, his very pregnant wife, are realizing the American dream when they purchase a house next door to community stalwarts Virginia and Frank. But a disagreement over a long-standing fence line soon spirals into an all-out war of taste, class, and horticulture. The hilarious results guarantee that no one comes out smelling like a rose.

I want to update members on a recent change in NH state law that affects us all. As of Jan 1, 2026, all motor vehicles in NH will no longer be required to get a yearly safety inspection.  That means the car next to you might not have working brakes or headlights. My personal opinion is that this is a safety hazard and negative impact on many of our local businesses.  Just FYI.

I was premature in announcing that the Working Together for J-R group supporting the schools could present to us on July 24. Instead, they will present their ideas for helping the schools on Aug 21. I am seeking a different speaker for July 24 (suggestions welcome).

Yours in Service,

Tom Ahlborn-Hsu

Fire Chief David Chamberlain Thanks Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary

Jaffrey Fire Chief David Chamberlain (R) recognized two firefighters who comprised the "cooking crew."  Tim Read (L) and Joe Amato (C) were two of five Jaffrey Firefighters who prepared a mouth-watering breakfast for the Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary Club on Thursday.  Firefighters who also cooked but were not shown included Deputy Fire Chief Keith Dupuis, and firefighters Mike Abbott and Todd Croteau.  Chief Chamberlain - recently recognized by the Jaffrey Board of Selectmen for his twenty-five years of service to the Town of Jaffrey - also thanked the Rotary Club for their donation.
