Hi Rotarians,
Happy Monday to all Rotarians this fine week! We had a little rain Sunday, but Saturday was glorious. I hope that people had fun enjoying Riverfest in Jaffrey. We had very good attendance and community spirit was high. I saw some of you at the antique car show at which I was performing.
Congratulations to all for a very successful Community Supper on Thursday night, July 24th! A hardworking crew of volunteers was on hand, and we fed 68 people a lovely spaghetti supper. Grateful thanks go out to Russ and his wife, Justine, and to Donna, Sam, Ben, Jed, Bill R, Bill C, Christine, Jim B, Teresa, Owen, Sheila, Bob, Richard, Peter, Rudra, and Eleanor, who made it a lovely evening. Note: please give receipts to Bill Coleman for reimbursement.
We are NOT meeting this Thursday, July 31st.
Good news!! The Jaffrey Grade School Afterschool Program is moving forward! It was two years ago that the idea of an afterschool program was proposed by the Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary and initial discussions took place with the principal of the grade school. The program will now be run by the Town of Jaffrey with no impact on the tax rate. As of this week, there are 34 pre-registrations and the program will be capped at 50 students.
Our next meeting will be August 7th, at 5:30pm at the Peterborough Players. This is a pot-luck picnic from 5:30 - 7:30pm after which we will see the play, "Native Gardens." If you have not already paid, please bring a check addressed to Jaffrey Rindge Rotary if you reserved tickets at our group rate of $48 per ticket.
Our final meeting for August will be Thursday, August 21st, at the Cathedral of the Pines at 7:15am. We will hear from Working Together for JR, a newly formed citizen's group supporting our schools. Tom and Eleanor will be providing breakfast.
At our last meeting, we discussed support for Got Lunch, the program that provides food for needy children and families over the summer. On Friday, July 25th, I went out with Eleanor to deliver 22 bags of food out of the 82 bags that were delivered that day. It was sad that the bags were only half full. As you know, food costs have gotten much higher, and the State of NH is providing only half what was provided in previous years. I will be recommending to the Rotary Board that we provide an additional $3K to Got Lunch so they can complete the summer deliveries.
Stay cool and we will see you next week!
Yours in Service,
Tom
