Hi Rotarians,

Before we start a new year of the Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary Club, a special thanks to Ben Wheeler for a great job last year, as President, and for bringing perfect weather to Gavel Night.  It was a good time, and the food was great (Thanks, Stephanie!).

This week we celebrate the Fourth of July, and there is no regular meeting.  Our next meeting will be at 7:15am on Thursday, July 14th, at Franklin Pierce University.   It will be a Club Assembly, and we will do some planning for the coming year.

The following week (June 21st) will feature Jennifer Kiley, Technology Center Director for Region 14, which includes Conant High School and several other high schools in the Monadnock Region.  Jennifer recently spoke to the Grand Monadnock Rotary Club, and Rotarians were literally blown away by what was going on in our own backyard relative to alternatives to college for area high school students.  You'll find this program highly informative!

The Board of Directors will meet Wednesday, July 13th, at 8:00am.  Tentative location will be the Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street.  Look for confirmation later this week.

The Amos Fortune Forum is having Carl Bernstein as a speaker this coming Friday, July 8th.  They expect a big crowd and have asked if Rotary might help with parking that evening.  If you can help, please contact Owen Houghton.

Yours in Service,

Peter

[Editor's Note:  A special thank you to President Peter, and Jinnie, for again hosting Gavel Night, as they have for many past years.]

Changing of the Guard

President Ben Wheeler, in his closing remarks as outgoing President, thanked everyone for their support during his presidency, while speaking highly of incoming President Peter Russell.  Ben wished Peter well, as President (2022-2023) of the Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary Club.

"E" for Excellence !

The "E" for Excellence Award is often bestowed on United States Navy ships in recognition for various things done well.  The "E" Award to President Ben was in recognition not only for his presidency during a year in which we (hopefully) left the pandemic behind, but also because the award plaque to "Benjamin J. Wheler" was missing that third "e" in Ben's last name.  The good news... a new plaque has been order with the correct name of "Benjamin J. Wheeler."

Tom Frazier, Our Newest Rotarian

In one of his last acts as President, Ben Wheeler (center - TOP) inducts Tom Frazier (L) as our newest Rotarian.  Russ Gaskamp (R), Membership Chair, holds the Membership plaque. Tom's sponsor is Bob Schaumann, who was behind the camera. In the second picture, Rotarians Owen and Rudra congratulate Tom on his induction.

Shades of Bill Driscoll !??!

It's hard to tell whose slacks are more reminiscent of the late Bill Driscoll, but Joe Manning (R) and President Ben Wheeler certainly bring back memories of a great Rotarian who is very much missed.  We'd have to give the nod to Joe on this one!
