Dear Rotarians,
We had our first Fall meeting at Franklin Pierce University last week. Bill Coleman's invocation prayer commemorated those who were taken from us on September 11, 2001. We were joined by Mary and Nancy from the Elm City Rotary Club; they received our contribution to their sneaker program. Mary gave a great overview of the Clarence DeMar marathon (that this Rotary Club organizes), which runs its 42nd annual event on September 28th. More than 650 athletes of all ages participate.
We also heard from Allen Gillis, director of the Community Volunteer Transportation Company (CVTC), which serves 36 towns in the Monadnock region. CVTC's volunteer drivers provide critical transportation for thousands of area residents. CVTC is always in need of drivers, and if you want to volunteer, contact them at 603-821-0569.
Our next meeting will be this Thursday (9/18) at 7:15 at Franklin Pierce University. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Lara Ingram, Professor of Psychology at Franklin Pierce University. Dr. Ingram graduated from Tufts University, and she will speak on "Neuroscience of Alcohol Drinking." Please note that Rotarian Rudra Aryal has graciously offered to coordinate our speakers program. If you know of someone who might be a good speaker, please let Rudra know!
This Thursday, we continue to focus on our Annual Auction (Oct 17th). If you have already sold your six tickets (yeah!!), there are more. The cost is $40/person or $75 for two people. Donna and Sam will be handing out sheets of possible auction donor items and we need to all work together to get great items to auction. If you have secured a raffle item, PLEASE make sure that you contact Sam Lafortune and let her know about it.
The Scarecrows on the Common festival is fast approaching on Saturday, October 4th, from 10am - 2pm. This has historically been a Rotary-sponsored event. We are looking for a few more volunteers to help out in the "hayloft." We will be making "Supported by the Jaffrey Rindge Rotary" banners to display at this event and other events to raise public awareness of Rotary contributions.
Yours in Service,
Tom
