Dear Rotarians,

It was great to hear from Cyndy Burgess and recognize the tremendous contribution she and her family have made in our communities. She is an inspiration to all of us about the difference that individual people can make.

This week's meeting of the Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary Club will be at the Cathedral of the Pines at 7:15am pm Thursday, June 18th.  Our speaker will be Jonathan Gourlay from WindowDressers, an organization that brings community volunteers of all economic and social situations together to improve the warmth and comfort of interior spaces, lower heating costs, and reduce carbon dioxide pollution.  They produce low-cost insulating window inserts that function as custom, interior-mounted storm windows. Their staff supplies, trains, and supports teams of community volunteers as they build affordable, insulating window inserts at local Community Builds.

June 25th is Gavel Night, and Rotarian Peter Russell has graciously offered to host this at his house. If it rains, we will move the meeting to Milliken Manor as the Cathedral has a blood drive that day.

Looking for things to do this summer?  There are plenty!  On Friday, June 26th, Rindge will celebrate the Nation's 250th anniversary with a parade, games, food, and fireworks on the Rindge Common from 5:00-9:30 pm. Jaffrey's Concerts on the Common start Wednesday, July 1st, at 5:30pm, for a series of eight free Wednesday Night concerts by your favorite local bands. On July 4th, we will have the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Jaffrey Meeting House at noon. The Park Theatre is hosting many events all weekend. Our participation in the National Potluck Supper will happen on the Jaffrey Town Commons on Sunday, July 5th

Meanwhile, Bill Coleman urgently needs some volunteers on Friday morning, June 19th, at 9:00am, to help with preparation and constriction of staging for our Grill and Chill fundraiser.  We will meet at Tom Hsu's home.  Please don't assume "someone else" will volunteer.  Many hands make work light.  Contact Bill Coleman at coleman030989@gmail.com

We are still looking for volunteers for food/coffee for these dates: If you can do either food or coffee please(!!) call or email me. My cell is 978 423-092.

August 13th finds fine chefs Bill Coleman and Bob Schaumann preparing a blueberry pancake breakfast.  We still need a volunteer to get coffee.

NOTE: Every year we raise money for the Rotary Foundation, under the organization of Bill Raymond. Our goal is to have each member donate $100, yet our real goal is to have 100% Club participation, regardless of the amount one can donate.  Please consider all the good that is done by Rotary and make a pledge. Checks are being collected by Bill and should be made out to the "Rotary Foundation."

Yours in Service,

Tom
